Tonya is a dynamic educational force recognized for her unwavering dedication to exceptional learners and their families. As the Founder and Owner of RMAT (Rocky Mountain Academic Therapy), she has empowered educators and supported students with diverse learning needs.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and certification as an Elementary K-6 and K-12 Special Education teacher, Tonya brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her work. She also holds Master’s degrees in both Special Education and Literacy, complementing her commitment to fostering academic success and literacy skills among her students.
Tonya’s passion for education extends beyond the classroom as she serves as the startup Director of an Exceptional Students Program for an online school, where she continues to innovate and advocate for the needs of exceptional and twice-exceptional students. She was also the director of an innovative “at-risk youth” recreational program and advocated for students with learning differences. Her Orton-Gillingham certification and role as a Reading Specialist underscore her dedication to literacy development, ensuring all students have the tools they need to thrive academically. She has also lent her expertise to teaching art and adult literacy, further enriching the lives of learners of all ages.
As a mother of four exceptional learners, including triplets, Tonya understands firsthand the challenges and triumphs of raising children with diverse abilities. Her personal experiences fuel her advocacy efforts, driving her to create inclusive environments where every student can reach their full potential.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Tonya is an avid lover of the outdoors, a cooking enthusiast, and a devoted dog owner. Students are drawn to Tonya’s warmth, contagious laughter, and compassionate nature. Melana McCormick
Hello! My name is Melana McCormick and I am a college student from CCU. I am currently finishing my degree in Secondary Mathematics! I have always had a heart for students, helping them see the gold in themselves and teaching them that they can do hard things if they try. Besides teaching, I love to be active. I have always loved to play tennis, go hiking, dance, paddle boarding, and play volleyball.

Laura Gumke
I am Laura Gumke, originally hailing from the wide-open plains of North Dakota and now proud to call Colorado home for the past decade. I have worked the last eight years as a dedicated special education teacher in the Jefferson County District.
My journey in education has been driven by a passion for ensuring that every student, regardless of their abilities or challenges, has the opportunity to thrive academically and personally. I believe in the power of tailored instruction and individualized support to unlock each student’s unique potential.
In my role, I’ve worked with students across a wide spectrum of learning needs, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and other exceptionalities. My approach is founded on patience, empathy, and a deep understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for growth.

Ms. Susan Bloomquist Is a retired public school teacher specializing in math, science, and writing. She has been a private tutor for over 30 years and has worked with children from early elementary to the community college level. She has employed standard instruction and intervention practices for reading and writing, especially in the areas of science and math. She has developed techniques for improving mathematical understanding and mastery for elementary and middle grades students.M. Susan is committed to helping students get excited about learning. She helps children feel confident in their abilities and rise to the challenges they face. She believes that every student can learn and that every student deserves the best possible instruction.

Hello! My name is Kirstin Straw, and I am passionate about helping students succeed. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Auburn University and a Master’s in Education from CU Denver. With 11 years of teaching experience in Jeffco, I have worked extensively with students of all learning styles and abilities.
I am Orton-Gillingham, Morphology, and LETRS certified, specializing in structured literacy and targeted interventions. As a mother of a daughter with dyslexia, I deeply understand the struggles, challenges, and rewards that come with learning differences. This personal connection fuels my commitment to scaffolding instruction, filling academic gaps, and helping students build confidence in their abilities.
